Determined to beat cancer, Sam escapes from the juvenile hospital ward to go on a potentially dangerous journey to climb Taranaki Maunga, the mountain that, as a Maori, she is culturally and personally connected with. Along the way, she meets Bronco and Mallory – two boys dealing with their own family struggles, and they need little convincing to join Sam on her secret mission to reach Taranaki. On their journey, Sam, Bronco, and Mallory face continuous obstacles, but when they finally reach their destination, truths are exposed, and the young friends learn unforgettable lessons. Rachel House, making her feature directorial debut, has crafted a distinctly New Zealand film centred on kids that young audiences can latch onto while also telling a story with enough substance to affect anyone of any age.
