Queens is a coming-of-age, drama film that follows the story of two sisters growing up in turbulent Peru in the 1990s. Inflation is soaring, there are protests on the streets, regular power cuts, a strict nighttime curfew and a growing exodus of those who have the means to travel. Aurora and Lucia’s mother has arranged to immigrate to the USA but first needs consent to travel from her unreliable ex-husband, Carlos. Faced with the prospect of losing his girls, Carlos tries to regain their affection. Queens is a clever and tender family story set within a chaotic and troubled historical context.
