In the winter of 1970, a cranky, small-town plumber from rural New Brunswick must drive his beat-up work truck to Toronto to get his estranged, gay brother out of jail after being arrested for having sex in a public park. The two men are then forced to drive back home together at the behest of their hard-nosed mother. It is a journey fraught with tension and misunderstandings, but at its heart, Drive Back Home is a road trip movie that has something to say about love, acceptance and, ultimately, forgiveness. Inspired by director Michael Clowater’s grandfather and great-uncle, the film will undoubtedly make you laugh and cry.
