Didi is a coming-of-age, comedy-drama that follows the story of Chris Wang (Izaac Wang), an Asian American teenager and his family as he learns how to navigate the complexity of growing up as a first-generation immigrant in Fremont, California during the early 2000s. The film explores the carelessness of youth summer bliss and the bitterness of internalized racism, identity crisis and growing up in a time when the rise in online communication was further muddying the waters of human connection. Winner of the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Didi is a funny, heartfelt movie that taps into one’s latent happy memories as well as feelings of great relief at no longer being 13.
