Set in Manchester, England, Spike Fearn plays Owen, a musician who makes a living as a sound engineer at the university’s student union bar. One night, he meets the girl of his dreams – Emily – and she gives him her number before leaving. Unfortunately, she missed a digit, so Owen can’t contact her. The lovesick Owen tries everything to find his Emily, but with only a first name to go on and more than 300 Emilys at the university, it’s an impossible task. One particular Emily, an American psychology student, decides to befriend Owen and help him find the original Emily, not out of the goodness of her heart but because she needs a case study to support her thesis that love makes people crazy and self-sabotaging. Owen doesn’t know that part, of course. Blending rich social commentary on the psychology of love, cancel culture and the age of social media with a swoon-worthy romance, excellent performances and a fantastic soundtrack, Finding Emily keeps things bright, funny and highly entertaining.
