Sam, a troubled teen, has returned home from boarding school and is struggling to accept the sudden presence of his wheelchair-bound English grandmother, Ruth. Sam finds himself deeply confronted by her alcoholic wit and nerve. Their first meeting is awkward and their second is almost violent. A battle of supremacy ensues between the strong-willed characters, which ultimately enables Sam to embrace life again and Ruth to face her mortality.
