Set in a sun-dappled village in Malta in the 1980s, and inspired by true events, this film beautifully explores the journey of a 50-year-old woman who is just beginning to find a new start in life after 35 years of servitude to the church. In Malta, it is tradition for the younger sister to devote her life to the church when an older brother enters the priesthood. Following the death of her brother, and aware of her own mortality, Carmen begins making up for lost time—experiencing joy, freedom and love in a bold new way.
